An unusual crossbreed dog has struck such a chord with the internet that his picture has gone viral seven years after it was first shared online.
A picture of a dog that is half basset hound and half English bulldog has been rediscovered on Reddit's r/rarepuppers, where it has quickly amassed over 6,000 upvotes.
The crossbreed—sometimes known as a "bullet"—stood out online thanks to his unusual looks. Part of a litter of pups born in 2015 at ABC Basset Hound Rescue of New York, Chumlee, as he was affectionately named, was a perfect blend of basset charm and bulldog tenacity.
"It looks like a St. Bernard that's shrinking and lost too much weight too quickly," laughed one commenter under the reshared image on Reddit. While another said: "Threw my St. Bernard in the dryer and now look at him."
A third commenter compared the dog to Eeyore in dog form, while another Redditor imagined the pooch as a hardworking employee finishing a 12-hour shift at an airport newsstand.
Amidst the virtual laughter and admiration, a user named Sad-Avocado-4579 simply remarked, "What a cute dog!"
"Such a cute mix!" said LCampbell49321 on Reddit, while l00koverthere1 wrote: "That dog is made for dozing with in a chair on rainy Sunday afternoons."
The ABC Basset Hound Rescue is a non-profit organization based in Buffalo, New York that focuses on rescuing Basset Hounds from across the country. The rescue even sells its own range of basset-themed apparel and gifts to raise much-needed money to pay for food and veterinary treatment for dogs in its care.
While this particular breed mix might be new to many people, mixed breed dogs are actually more common than purebred pets in the U.S. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, the percentage of mixed-breed dogs out of all living in households in the United States is estimated to be at around 53 percent.
This is not the first time an unusual dog breed mix has captured attention online, either. Like the dachshund x corgi mix who left people in awe or the rare pit bull and Husky mix who had viewers asking where they could get their own.
