The movie will follow Oppenheimer's life while he developed the atomic bomb for the United States government.
His work led to bombs being dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, a devastating attack that killed thousands and put a final exclamation point on the second World War.
After America dropped the bombs, Oppenheimer campaigned for nuclear weapons controls to avert a potential nuclear war with the former Soviet Union.
Oppenheimer died in 1967 from throat cancer after years of smoking cigarettes. He was 62 years old.
The current release date, set by Universal Pictures, is July 21, 2023
